INNATE Postpartum Care Practitioner —
Hi there, I’m Skylar!
I am a Certified Postpartum Professional with Newborn Mothers Collective and Certified INNATE Postpartum Care Practitioner with Rachelle Garcia Seliga of Innate Traditions. I live in rural southeast Nebraska where our family regeneratively grazes cattle on the prairie. I am a mother to two sons, home birth mama, and foodie!
I started Deep Roots Doula Care to fill the gap in support for mothers after they give birth. I look to nature as my guide and my practice is rooted in the belief that food is medicine and both heals and nourishes the mind, body, and spirit. I focus on restoring vitality in mothers after birth through food, body care, emotional support, and accountability.
With my first son, I remember leaving the hospital with a “baby manual” on how to take care of my newborn, but I did not receive any instruction on how to take care of myself for a more supported and easeful recovery. I experienced rage, isolation, and fatigue. My postpartum care from my midwives was extremely minimal and included only two visits. Even after a forceps delivery with my son, I received no referrals to pelvic floor physical therapy. At 18 months after the birth, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease.
After monthly and then weekly appointments in pregnancy, Mothers are feeling dropped at the curb after birth.
I want you to know that dis-ease and dysfunction after birth are COMMON in our society but they are far from normal.
There is a road map to wellness after birth when we look to our global traditions around postpartum care - from Russia to Malaysia to Mexico.
I am in service to mothers and provide mother-centered postpartum support to provide deep life-long changes in the lives of families.
I am here to help mothers create a postpartum filled with joy, peace, connection, and confidence. I want to help new moms feel empowered to set up a postpartum where they feel honored, supported, and well-fed.
Mothers bring life into the world and give so much to their families.
It is time we pour more loving attention into the cup of the mother.

My Approach & Perspective
My training is rooted in the physiological needs of mothers during the first year after birth. I focus my attention on giving loving traditional support in a modern context. The care that women have received in communities across the globe for centuries.
