Afternoon Peanut Butter Smoothie
Recipe for Peanut Butter Smoothies:
This smoothie has rolled oats (well-known galactagogue) to promote lactation and is a perfect afternoon treat. This recipe makes about 1 quart (32 ounces). If you are making it for two people, double the recipe.
Ingredients:
½ cup oats
2 cups milk or non-dairy milk
¼ - ⅓ cup of peanut butter
1 banana*
1 - 2 tablespoons honey
Soak 1/2 cup oats in 1 cup of milk on your kitchen countertop for at least 30 minutes (can be as long as overnight during the fall, winter, and spring seasons). This step is optional, but aids in the digestibility of the oats by lightly fermenting them. Pour milk & oat mixture into blender, add just shy of 1 cup of milk, 1/4 - 1/3 cup peanut butter, 1 banana*, and 1 -2 tablespoons of honey. And blend! Yum! Add more or less milk depending on how thick you want the smoothie.
*If you want to eat the smoothie right away, it is best to use a frozen banana so the drink is cold. I typically just use a banana on the counter because that is what I have then I refrigerate it for an hour before consuming.
